Do I need a License?
If you plan on flying your drone strictly as hobby then you do not need Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO), commonly referred to as a Drone License. However, you should follow the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) regulations.
You will need a PfCO or drone license if you plan on using your drone to carry out commercial operations (earn money) with.
The CAA defines a commercial operations as “any operation if an aircraft…in return for remuneration or other valuable consideration”. It doesn’t matter if you are being paid in pounds or beers for your services, the CAA will consider this as commercial gain and you will need a PfCO/drone license.
It is illegal to fly your drone for commercial gain without a PfCO; this applies to all industries and to all drones.
